What IELTS score does Concordia University of Edmonton require?

Undergraduates are exempt with three full years of study in Canada including Alberta Grade 12 and 50% in English Language Arts 30-1, or one year in Canada with 60% in English 30 or ELA 30-1. Outside Canada, you are exempt if you completed the equivalent of Alberta Grade 12 with English as the principal language of your education for at least three full years, or hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised institution where English is the primary language of instruction. CAEL (60, with 50 in listening, reading and speaking and 60 in writing) and Cambridge C1 Advanced (175, no band below 165) are also accepted.

For graduate admission, a bachelor's degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction and the principal language of the country meets the requirement, and a degree taught in English elsewhere may earn an exemption at CUE's discretion. Graduate CAEL is 60 with 60 on each subtest. The Bachelor of Education After Degree follows Alberta Education's certification rules instead.

Once admitted, undergraduates pay a $2,500 registration deposit before CUE issues the documents for a study permit application.

CUE's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
