Pottery questions with sample answers

1

Have you ever made pottery?

Yes, once or twice, actually. A few months ago, a friend and I took a beginner's workshop at a local arts centre. We tried throwing clay on a wheel, which was surprisingly tricky, but I managed to make a slightly wobbly mug that I still use for tea.

2

Do you have any ceramic items at home?

Quite a few, to be honest. Aside from the usual plates and bowls in the kitchen, I've got a couple of handmade vases on my living room windowsill. They add a lovely rustic feel to the flat, especially when filled with fresh flowers.

3

Did you do any clay sculpting when you were at school?

Yes, I distinctly remember doing a bit in primary school art classes. We used air-drying clay to sculpt little animal figurines and pinch pots. Mine were usually a bit messy and cracked easily, but it was always my favourite lesson of the week.

4

Do you think pottery makes a good gift?

Definitely, because it feels much more thoughtful than something mass-produced. Receiving a hand-thrown ceramic mug or a decorative dish shows that someone has put real effort into choosing a unique piece. I actually gave my mother a glazed planter for her birthday last year.

5

Would you like to learn more about making pottery in the future?

I'd love to, really. It's such a tactile and relaxing hobby, so I'm keen to sign up for a proper six-week course when I have some free time. I think mastering the potter's wheel would be a fantastic way to unwind after work.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
