Rivers questions with sample answers

1

Is there a river near where you live?

Yes, there is a fairly wide river that flows right through the centre of my city. It is actually only a ten-minute walk from my flat, so I cross over the footbridge almost every morning on my way to work.

2

Do you often spend time near rivers?

Quite a bit, actually, especially during the summer. I really enjoy going for a jog along the riverbank in the evenings because it is so peaceful and breezier than the busy high street. It is a great way to unwind after a long day.

3

What activities do people usually do by rivers in your country?

Well, a lot of people like to pack a picnic and sit on the grassy banks when the weather is nice. You also see keen anglers fishing early in the morning, and occasionally people renting kayaks or rowing boats for an afternoon out.

4

Did you ever go to a river when you were a child?

I did, yes. During the school holidays, my parents used to take my brother and me to a shallow river out in the countryside. We would spend hours skimming stones across the water and paddling in the shallows, which was brilliant fun.

5

Would you like to live in a house next to a river in the future?

I would love to, to be honest. Waking up to a scenic view of the water every day sounds wonderful. The only downside might be the risk of flooding during heavy rain, but if that were well managed, it would be an ideal spot.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
