Thermal Expansion Joints
Long viaducts naturally expand and contract as ambient temperatures fluctuate throughout the year. If designers fail to incorporate modular expansion joints across the deck, severe thermal stresses can crack the surrounding concrete, ultimately jeopardising the structural integrity of the entire crossing.
