The best IELTS preparation platform for you depends on the practice and feedback you need. A question bank, a video course and teacher-led coaching can all be useful, but they solve different problems. Compare your exam version, weakest skill, available study time and the feedback included in the actual plan.
Reviewed 20 September 2026. Published by BandLadder. This guide includes our own product. The descriptions below use providers' published offers; they are not an independent test of scoring accuracy or learner outcomes. No numerical ranking or star rating is assigned. For current dated prices, see the IELTS preparation pricing comparison.
Start with the kind of help you need
- Repeated independent practice: look for the right question types, timed attempts, useful explanations and accessible practice history.
- Learning the format: look for organised lessons, worked answers and practice that applies each lesson.
- Personal explanation: check whether qualified human feedback or teaching is included, how much you receive and how quickly it arrives.
- A realistic diagnostic: check which sections are scored, how Writing and Speaking are evaluated, and whether the mock matches your chosen exam.
A larger question bank gives you more material to practise; it does not by itself prove better scoring. A mock-test count may describe distinct tests, not the number of permitted attempts. Check both before comparing offers.
BandLadder: self-paced practice with AI feedback
BandLadder supports IELTS Academic and General Training, with a 30k+ IELTS question library, full mocks, sectional practice, AI Speaking and Writing feedback, study material and prediction resources. The wider platform also has a separate 25k+ PTE question library for Academic and Core. Choose the correct exam; one active exam subscription is supported per account.
The standard IELTS free allowance is two Speaking and two Writing question-practice AI evaluations per day, resetting at midnight India time. Paid plans provide the same self-paced platform features for different access periods. A longer duration does not add a dedicated mentor, weekly classes or unlimited human marking. See current IELTS plans and allowances.
This can fit a learner who wants frequent practice on their own schedule and feedback to guide the next attempt. Try one relevant task before buying. AI practice scores are estimates rather than official IELTS results; prediction resources do not guarantee future exam questions.
Magoosh: an organised lesson-and-practice course
Magoosh's IELTS plans list video lessons, practice questions, up to ten full-length mocks, study schedules and unlimited AI Speaking and Writing grading. The page offers Academic and General Training signup paths and a limited free trial.
Consider the lesson sequence if you prefer working through a course. Check the selected duration and the terms attached to any score guarantee. Its Ask-an-Expert feature and its AI grading are different services; confirm the kind of individual help you need.
E2Language: options that include teaching and assessments
The E2Language IELTS General comparison separates entry packages from tiers with more teacher assessments and tutorials. It lists live classes, practice activities, lessons and plan-specific feedback. Express+ includes a teacher-graded mock, while the amounts of additional Speaking and Writing assessment vary by package.
If you need a teacher to explain a recurring weakness, compare the included sessions and reviews with your schedule. Check the separate Academic offer for Academic preparation, and read the current conditions of any guarantee.
Alfa IELTS: AI practice with a separate trainer-review tier
The Alfa IELTS feature table shows a limited free tier and paid Premium/Premium Plus tiers. Its paid offering lists 12,000+ questions, AI scoring, full and sectional mocks, a study plan and progress information. Premium Plus adds trainer evaluation.
Check the live price, duration and trainer-credit allowance for your selected offer. The free tier's limited AI access should not be confused with the unlimited access described for paid plans. Provider claims about scoring quality are not an independent accuracy benchmark.
BestMyTest: course content and different feedback allowances
BestMyTest's IELTS plans combine practice content with instant feedback and package-specific assessment allowances. The page reviewed distinguished instant Speaking/Writing feedback, deeper AI assessments and teacher reviews. The seven-day plan did not include teacher reviews; other packages listed different quantities.
Check which feedback service your plan contains and whether its credits cover the work you intend to submit. The page served a localised version during our review, so confirm the selected language, package and final checkout details.
LeapScholar: a defined self-preparation course
LeapScholar's self-preparation course lists recorded lessons, three months of material/video access and 50+ tests across individual sections. Its FAQ specifies 13 Listening, 13 Reading, 13 Writing and 12 Speaking tests, with trainer feedback on selected mocks.
Check the feedback arrangement and turnaround before relying on it for a close deadline. The listed tests are not 50 complete four-skill exams. This preparation course is separate from the provider's admissions-counselling products.
IELTS Online Tests: select the resource or service you need
IELTS Online Tests offers a self-study course catalogue and separate assessment services, including AI Speaking evaluation. Treat a course, a test library and an evaluation purchase as distinct offers.
Check which parts of a test provide an answer key, AI analysis or human feedback. A visible score alone does not tell you who assessed the response or how to improve it. Avoid assuming that every resource or service is included in one purchase.
British Council IELTS Ready: review your booking benefits
IELTS Ready lists a free preparation tier and Premium access linked to an eligible British Council test booking. Its comparison distinguishes mock tests, preparation courses and AI-feedback upgrades.
Check what is already available through your booking before paying for another service. Use official familiarisation and assessment resources alongside whichever practice platform you select; a preparation subscription does not replace exam registration.
A short selection exercise
Two fictional learners need different support. One understands the format but needs repeated Speaking practice around a changing work schedule. The other cannot understand why their essays receive the same comments and wants someone to explain the problem. Should both choose solely by the number of questions?
Compare the two learners' needs
The first should test recording, feedback quality and access at the times they can study. The second should inspect a feedback sample and consider a plan with an appropriate human review or teaching service. Either may combine official resources with a practice platform. More questions alone will not resolve an explanation they do not understand.
Judge the feedback before judging the score
The official IELTS scoring explanation describes the assessment criteria. Writing includes task fulfilment, organisation, vocabulary and grammar; Speaking also requires assessment of spoken delivery and pronunciation. A useful practice report connects its comments to your response and suggests an action you can apply.
Use our free-trial comparison checklist to test one platform at a time. It includes an original feedback exercise and a simple record of what worked, failed or needs clarification.
