BandLadder combines IELTS question practice, AI Speaking and Writing feedback, sectional tests and full mocks. It is designed for self-paced preparation: attempt a task, review the feedback, practise a specific improvement and return to a new example.

Reviewed 20 September 2026. Published by BandLadder. This is BandLadder's own product guide. It describes the current platform offer rather than claiming an independently established “best” ranking or a guaranteed band increase.

Start with Academic or General Training

Choose IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training before practising. In Writing Task 1, Academic learners describe visual information, while General Training learners write a letter. Both versions include a Task 2 essay, but using the correct question bank still matters.

Check the requirements of the organisation receiving your result before selecting a test. BandLadder practice is preparation; it does not register you for the official exam.

30k+ IELTS questions and several ways to practise

The platform's 30k+ IELTS question library covers material across Academic and General Training. The separate PTE collection contains 25k+ PTE questions. These totals describe the libraries, not the number of tasks available in every free account or individual exam.

Choose question practice when you want to work on one weakness. Use sectional tests for pacing and full mocks for a longer rehearsal. Study material and prediction resources supply further prompts and explanations. Prediction material does not guarantee that a particular topic will appear in your exam.

Turn AI feedback into a revision

BandLadder provides AI Speaking and Writing feedback to support practice. Match each comment to something in your answer. For Writing, identify whether the issue concerns the response to the task, organisation, vocabulary or grammar. For Speaking, inspect the recording as well as comments on language and delivery.

The official IELTS scoring explanation sets out the assessment criteria. BandLadder's AI scores are practice estimates, not official examiner results or a promise of the same test-day band. A useful report should help you decide what to change next.

Try an original paragraph improvement exercise

Consider this sentence pair for an essay about transport: “Cities should improve buses. Buses are good and people like them.” What explanation would make the point more persuasive?

Reveal an example revision

“Cities should run buses more frequently because long waits make public transport unreliable for commuters. For example, a service every ten minutes would give workers more flexibility than an hourly route.” This adds a reason and an illustrative example. It is not a complete essay or an assessed band response; you still need to address the actual question and develop the rest of your argument.

Apply the same method to your own work: keep the main point, explain why it matters, then add a relevant example. Do not memorise this paragraph for an unrelated question.

What is included free?

The standard free IELTS question-practice allowance is two Speaking and two Writing AI evaluations per day. It resets at midnight India time, requires no card and does not expire. Promotional trial access may differ. Full-mock access is a separate entitlement; this allowance is not a claim of unlimited free full-test scoring.

Try a question in your exam version and check whether the feedback helps you revise. Before using a Speaking evaluation, confirm that your microphone recording is audible. For Writing, check that you have answered the prompt rather than submitting a memorised response.

What do paid plans include?

Paid self-paced plans provide unlimited practice and AI evaluations within the selected plan, full mocks, sectional tests, study material and prediction resources for the chosen access period. The platform supports one active exam subscription per account. Compare Academic plans or General Training plans for current prices and duration.

A longer access period does not automatically include dedicated mentoring, live classes or human essay marking. Product support and teaching are different services. If human explanation is what you need, compare a separately specified teaching or review offer before buying.

A study routine you can repeat

  1. Pick one skill and a task that reveals a real weakness.
  2. Complete it before reading a model response.
  3. Find one specific issue in the question, answer and feedback.
  4. Revise, then try a fresh question to test the same improvement.
  5. Use sectional practice or a mock to check timing after targeted work.

Keep a short error log so the next session starts with a clear purpose. A library gives you enough material to repeat the process; improvement comes from using that material thoughtfully.
