Band 8 sample answer

Band 8188 words. Every figure in the answer comes from the chart above.

The provided charts illustrate the monthly rainfall and temperature patterns in a specific East African region. Overall, the data reveals a bimodal rainfall distribution, with the highest precipitation occurring in April and November, while temperatures fluctuate between 20.5°C and 24°C throughout the year.

Rainfall is most significant in April, peaking at 260 mm, followed by a secondary peak in November at 160 mm. Conversely, the driest months are June, July, and August, where rainfall drops to between 10 mm and 15 mm. January and February also remain relatively dry, with precipitation levels below 20 mm. The remaining months show moderate rainfall, with October recording 150 mm and May reaching 135 mm.

Regarding temperature, the climate is warmest in March at 24°C, closely followed by April and October at 23.5°C. The lowest temperature is recorded in July at 20.5°C. Interestingly, the temperature trend shows a decline during the mid-year dry season, reaching its minimum in July, before rising again towards the end of the year. There is a notable drop in temperature during the peak rainfall month of April, suggesting an inverse relationship between heavy precipitation and heat levels.
