Frequently asked questions
Is the PTE Core practice test free?
Yes. A free account gets 1 full mock plus 5 speaking and 2 writing AI evaluations a day, no card. The rest of the 40+ full-length mocks (20+ of them PTE Core) come with a plan, from 7 days, priced in your local currency.
Does PTE Core practice include AI scoring?
Yes. Speaking and writing responses receive AI-based scoring and feedback, so you can see which aspects of a response are holding your score back.
Is PTE Core accepted for Canadian immigration?
Yes. PTE Core is accepted by IRCC for Express Entry and permanent residence. Your scores convert to a CLB level — check the current requirement for your stream on the official IRCC site.
How long is the PTE Core test?
About two hours in three parts, per Pearson: Speaking and Writing takes 50–65 minutes, Reading 27–37 minutes and Listening 22–37 minutes. A full BandLadder mock follows the same order and timing.
What PTE Core score do I need for CLB 7 or CLB 9?
CLB 7 is listening 60, reading 60, writing 69 and speaking 68. CLB 9 is listening 82, reading 78, writing 88 and speaking 84. Every skill is read separately, so the weakest one sets your level.
How long do PTE Core results take?
Pearson says most test takers get results within two business days, and some wait up to five. IRCC needs the result to be less than two years old when you create your Express Entry profile and when you apply.
Is PTE Core the same as PTE Academic?
No. PTE Core tests everyday English for work and migration, and IRCC accepts it for economic immigration, including Express Entry; IRCC does not accept PTE Academic for Express Entry. Australia and the UK want PTE Academic instead.
