What IELTS score do you need for Charles University?

Master's applicants are exempt if they completed at least two years of previous education with English as the sole language of instruction in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK or the USA. Graduates of the faculty's own English-taught bachelor's are also exempt.

The bachelor's exemption list is shorter: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, South Africa and the USA. India is not on it. At both levels, other qualifications showing C1 English can also be accepted.

Bachelor's applicants can also use SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 550, ACT English and Reading 24, or IB English grade 6.

Charles University is made up of many faculties, and each sets its own admission requirements for English-taught programmes. The figures above apply to the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics; check your own faculty's admission page for its tests and scores.

Language test results must be no more than two years old. For 2026/27 entry the faculty's application deadline was 30 April 2026, and it advises applying early to leave time for a Czech student visa.
